Knicks point guard Cam Payne exits early with ankle sprain

The Knicks lack point guards.

Cam Payne, who had begun his third straight game with Jalen Brunson (ankle) and Miles McBride (Groin), both finished a 126-113 loss to the Clippers on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden with a sprain in his right ankle.

Payne sparked the Hotknix offensively, scoring 15 points for injuries.

Rookie Tyler Colek remained as the only healthy true point guard available.

He played 19 minutes – tied to the best of the season – he didn't score, but recorded seven assists.

“I'm just ready to go when your number is called,” Korek said. “You don't want these situations. You want everyone to get hurt. You always want opportunities, but you don't want to see it come at the expense of others. You just have to be prepared to go no matter what my role is, whether I'm out there, cheering on my guys from the bench or not.”

Deron Wright, who was used by Little, also played 12 minutes, seeing more actions as a result of the injury.

He didn't score and had three assists in losses.

“The next guy will get there,” coach Tom Thibodeau said. “I thought Tyler played well in the first half, and then Deron, the next guy, is going to work and get the job done. That's a big part of your approach, it's your team's approach. I think adversity is necessary. You're mentally tough. You have to get through it.

Mitchell Robinson He returned on Wednesday after missing out on Tuesday's Mavericks victory. Because he hasn't played in a row since he returned from a leg injury.

However, he played in just 13 minutes and didn't score. He had two rebounds and assists.

“I'm not wrapped up in his minutes. That's a team function,” Thibodeau said. “That's a big deal. It's not 'He's going to play the last few minutes.' …Who do they have on the floor?
