California Has More EV Charging Ports than Gas Pumps, but Demand Struggles

California currently has more electric vehicle (EV) charging stations than gas nozzles, but consumer demand is struggling to meet Gov. Gavin Newsom's goal of ending gas-powered vehicles by 2035, and federal support is questionable.

Los Angeles Times It has been reported Wednesday:

Electric vehicle charging ports surpass gas nozzles across Golden State, indicating an increase in the number of zero-emission vehicles on the road. However, the milestone arrives as the federal government moved to take shifts from gas-powered cars.

The number of accessible chargers across California has almost doubled since 2022. These figures were last released since August, recording about 26,000 additional published EV chargers.

As Breitbart News noted in December, there is not enough consumer demand to meet Newsom's goals.[M]ARKERTY's reality is intervening as consumer demand lags behind Newsom's targets. Drivers fear that even with state and federal tax rebates, they will accumulate EVS and get stuck on the road due to a lack of electricity. ”

Additionally, President Donald Trump has revoked the Biden administration's EV order, uncertaining the future of the market.
