On Wednesday, NATO “clearly made” earlier remarks made by Secretary-General Mark Latte after announcing that four US soldiers had been killed during a NATO training exercise in Lithuania. The US Army never confirmed the executive director's initial announcement.

“The search is ongoing,” NATO said in an revised statement posted to X.

The US military said the armored Hercules vehicle carrying four soldiers was found to be submerged in waters while they were working. As of Wednesday, restoration efforts were still underway by the US Army, Lithuanian military and civilian agencies.

The Lithuanian Army has previously announced that there is currently no evidence or information confirming the death of the army.

All four soldiers, starting from 1st Brigade – 3rd The infantry division, based in Fort Stewart, Georgia, reportedly was conducting NATO exercises when it went “missing.”

During a trip to Warsaw, Poland, Latte first told reporters that he was explained to the alleged deaths of four soldiers while he was giving lectures.

“This is still early news, so we don't know the details. This is really terrible news and our thoughts are with our family and our loved ones,” Latte said in Warsaw.

Lithuanian and foreign troops used air force helicopters to search for missing soldiers and were rescued by state border guards.

“I would like to personally thank the Lithuanian troops and first responders who came to our aid soon in our search operations,” said V Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Charles Costanza.

The Baltic Sea nation hosts over 1,000 American troops based on rotation to allow joint exercises.

It is unclear to some extent whether the search effort has ceased or whether the group is searching for the four missing soldiers.

This is a developing story. Please check again for more details.
