The owner of CJ Seafood, Craig Reeves, expressed his belief that Donald Trump’s tariffs will bring “instant relief” to the shrimp sector.
“I’m a lifelong fisher. My father was a shrimp fisherman, so we are a legacy of fishermen and we have been adversely affected by imports for not just years but for decades,” he stated.
A South Carolina shrimp fisherman told Fox News on Friday that President Donald Trump’s tariffs would offer “immediate relief” to the shrimp industry “harmed by imports” for years.
Craig Reeves mentioned on the “American Report” that a significant portion of the industry has been offshored to regions such as Southeast Asia, Ecuador, India, and South America, leaving the U.S. fishing industry “devastated.”
“I’m a lifelong fisher. My father was a shrimp fisherman, so we are a legacy of fishermen and we have been negatively impacted by imports for not just years but literally decades,” Reeves stated. “We have been enduring hardship for a long time. We are hopeful these tariffs will provide us with immediate relief. It also highlights struggling industries. We have outsourced our entire sector. A staggering 94% of the shrimp consumed in the U.S. is imported.”
