Four people hospitalized in a Dominican Republic nightclub with injuries caused by roof collapse died overnight, bringing the death toll to at least 225, health officials said on Saturday.
Of the more than 200 injured, 15 remain hospitalized, including five in dangerous conditions, officials said. A total of 189 people have been rescued from the popular nightclub jet jet tile rub in the capital of Santo Domingo.
Health Minister Victor Attala told reporters on Saturday that the victim was delayed in identifying it. Because most of them had to match using biometric data.
Professional sports athletes, politicians and fashion designers were among people inside the nightclub on Tuesday, crashing into the middle of a performance by popular Merengue singer Rubby Perez on the roof, triggering a 53-hour search and rescue mission.
Among the confirmed deaths are Perez, former World Series champion Octavio Dotel, former major league baseball player Tony Blanco and current father of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Dotel began his career as a Mets prospect and played alongside the Yankees, and won the ring with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.
Nelsy Cruz, governor of Monte Christi and seven-time sister. Major League Baseball All Star Nelson Crus, He reportedly warned Dominican President Louis Abinader of the disaster and called him out from under the shrapnel.
Officials said Nelsey Cruz later died at the hospital.
Other victims include Martin Polanco, a New York-based UN fashion designer. This is the Army captain who left four young girls and three employees at Grupo Polatious, a financial services company that includes the president of AFP Popular Bank and his wife.
Flags from New York City Hall and other city-owned buildings were hanged Saturday in response to this week's tragic roof collapse.
Mayor Eric traveled to the Dominican Republic on Sunday and was Dominican along with New York's Transport Director Ydanis Rodriguez, where he pays his respects.
