The Chief Information Officer of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said he would leave the agency later this month, and announced his departure shortly before the April 15 tax deadline. Outlet It has been reported Monday night.
According to the report, Rajiv Uppal, who has been in the role since early 2024, has emailed staff to announce that he will be leaving the tax revenue agency on April 28th.
“It was an honor to be Chief Information Officer for two filing seasons and I am extremely proud of the work we have done together.
Oka reached out to an IRS spokesman for comment.
With over 25 years of information technology experience in both the private and public sectors, Uppal is another high level deviation from the agency targeted by President Trump and Elon Musk’s Government Efficiency (DOGE). The duo is trying to cut back on thousands of IRS workers.
Last week, IRS representative Melanie Kraus resigned after a contract was filed to share immigrant tax data with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The agency fired more than 6,700 workers in February. Workers were labeled as probation. More than 5,000 workers were part of the collection staff and auditors who addressed tax compliance issues.
According to Bloomberg Tax, IRS’s chief technology office, Kaschit Pandya, has inherited Uppal’s success for now.
Before working as the IRS Chief Information Officer, Uppal served the same title at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
