Toy Industry CEO Warns: Trump’s China Tariffs Could Endanger Christmas!

Toy industry CEO on Trump's China tariffs: 'Christmas is at risk’

The president and CEO of the Toy Association stated that President Trump’s 145% tariff on China could jeopardize a child’s Christmas as the two largest economies continue to be entangled in a trade conflict.

“Currently, toys aren’t being manufactured in China, and there are indications that significant US retailers are starting to cancel their orders. So, Jake, Christmas is in jeopardy,” Greg Ahern remarked during his appearance on CNN’s “Tuesday show.”Leading with Jake Tupper. ”

A leader in the toy industry mentioned that American firms can’t match the production levels of Chinese factories, as 96% of US manufacturers are categorized as small to medium-sized businesses.

Ahearn indicated that it would require considerable time for US manufacturers to match the production pace of their Chinese equivalents.

“Establishing expertise and specialization takes three to five years. Many toys from China are crafted by hand,” he said.

“It’s the face painting on dolls, it’s a hair accessory. It requires them to be arranged correctly and packaged,” Ahearn concluded. “Much of this involves manual labor that cannot be automated in America.”

Billionaire Bill Ackman cautioned about similar disruptions affecting small business owners due to tariffs that might slash profits and hinder their sustainability.

Ackman commended Trump’s choice to halt taxation for the moment, but others contended that the president had exceeded his trade jurisdiction.

“Our system isn’t designed for one individual to have the authority to impose taxes on the global economy. That isn’t how our constitutional republic functions,” Jeffrey Schwab, senior adviser at the Liberty Center for Justice, who is leading legal actions against the Trump administration regarding tariffs, informed The Hill in an earlier statement.

Trump maintains that tariffs will enhance American manufacturing and elevate the country’s employment rate, claiming many nations are aiming to “trade” with the US by distancing themselves from China.

“There’s no distinction between China and other nations; however, they’re significantly larger, and China desires what we possess, what we own, what we offer, American consumers.”
