The former US ambassador of Albania says the country’s upcoming elections will be something of a spill between President Trump and George and Alex Soros’ policies.
“Albania is now a one-party system that is effectively pretending to hold elections,” Agim Neshaw, former Albanian ambassador to the US and the United Nations, told Fox News Digital. Neshaw said the May election was “a clash between ‘Trumpists’ and ‘Sorosists’, the latter fighting to grasp Albania’s corruption and the nation.”
Amid accusations of corruption and recent arrests of Albania’s leading political candidates, some critics have expressed concern about the integrity of the future elections for the country’s 140-member parliament, currently scheduled for May 11th.
Neshaw claimed that it is “undemocratic and deeply rooted, led by the prime minister led by Prime Minister Eddie Rama.” For over 12 years, he has been supported by rich left-wing donors like Lama’s best friend Alex Soros, as well as projects like USAID and the Open Society. [Foundations] He argued that the Prime Minister would “oversee a powerful drug state that spreads fear and controls elections.”

President Trump’s former campaign manager, Chris Rashivita, took part in the February campaign of Albanian right-wing Democratic leader Sari Belisha. According to Politico. Lacivita told the publication that Berisha is “a true friend of the United States and… will work well with President Trump and the United States.” He called the llama “George Soros’ doll.”
Berisha, former Albanian president and prime minister, told Fox News Digital during the May 2023 election that the Lama government “banned the names and names of the parties on my name and vote list.” “When they failed these measures,” he said they went further.
Congress stripped Berisha of legal immunity in December 2023 and placed him on house arrest under accusations that he used his position to help his son-in-law acquire private property. Berisha says that “official documents have been proven” means that the land belongs to the grandfather of his son-in-law and was confiscated by the former communist regime.
Last November, Belisha was released from house arrest. He was formally charged with corruption in September, the Associated Press reported.
Berisha spokesman Alfred Lela told Fox News Digital that Berisha is awaiting trial.
In addition to Berisha, Irilmeta, the leader of the Centlist Freedom Party and former Albanian president, was arrested in October 2024 on corruption charges after one source accused Fox News Digital of “weaponization of judicial and law enforcement.” Meta, once a Rama ally, has frequently noticed the rise in corruption and authoritarianism in the Rama government.

George Soros’ Open Society Foundation (OSF) invested more than $131 million in Albania between 1992 and 2020, effectively “supporting” the European Centre for Law and Justice in 2023, reporting “in favor of Rama’s rising power.” Allow the government to control the judiciary. ”
The OSF offices in Albania and the US did not respond to numerous inquiries regarding allegations made by the enemy from Fox News Digital against it.
According to the OSF website, the group “allocated $600,000 to support the process of overhauling the Albanian judicial system” in 2015 as part of its preparations to join the European Union in Albania in 2015. The OSF said, “The money was used to fund a 20-strong panel of experts, conduct public outreach and opinion research, establish a dedicated website and organize meetings.”

Berisha says he asked the US and European Parliament to be banned eight years ago [George] Soros’ political activities in Europe, as he is the enemy of democracy. ”
In a December speech, Berisha said that, according to Euronows Albania, it would ban OSF from Albania and call the group a “real national threat.” Berisha said that immobilization of 45% of Albanians was forced due to improper management of the Lama government’s resources and failure to alleviate poverty.

Another challenge in Berisha’s running is the sanctions announced in May 2021 by former Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Berisha, his wife and his children. Blinken said Belisha was “involved in corrupt acts, including misuse of public funds and obstructing public processes. Officials.”
Berisha argued that the sanctions against him were “based on a totally corrupt lobbying activity” by George Soros and Rama. He also said that members of the Biden administration have “turned around.” [the] The US embassy in Tirana “urged supporters, journalists and businessmen to stop supporting Berisha and his party, and the State Department ” asked other countries to sanction and quarantine me.”
Belisha said sanctions hindered his campaign. “Of course, that hurts me, because I can’t meet Albanian Americans. There aren’t many Albanian Americans. For the first time in this election, they have the right to vote for the party and candidate they like in their country of origin.”

A State Department spokesperson said he had not commented on Berisha’s claim that the US entities opposed him. The State Department did not respond to questions from Fox News Digital about whether sanctions against Berisha should be supported or whether it would prevent free and fair elections in Albania.
A spokesman for former President Joe Biden did not answer questions about whether his administration has the role of submitting supporters to Berisha.
Nesho said the sanctions “lack of evidence and were rejected by Albanian public opinion. It looks like a political move. This is driven by the big money allies of the Lama, like Alex Soros, who influence Rama, commercially and from maintaining power.” Neshaw called on the Trump administration to “release the ban immediately. It stirs anti-American sentiment and clashes with democracy and fairness values,” he added.

Nesho said, “The last three elections were unfair and full of intimidation and theft. On May 11, 2025, the election should not be just a false show. It should be truly free and fair. Fox News Digital has contacted OSF Prime Minister Rama, Prime Minister Rama and Prime Minister Rama, who are members of Washington, DC’s Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but there was no response, for comments on the accusations of corruption and OSF’s election interference.
