Officials reported that a minimum of four individuals were admitted to the hospital following a shooting incident at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday.
Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare indicated that it “accepts and cares for patients.” Statement made to NBC News Thursday afternoon.
“Currently, further details are being communicated, and we do not possess specific information to relay at this time. Nonetheless, we want to assure the community that our team is fully mobilized and prepared to provide exceptional care and assistance to all impacted individuals,” the spokesperson stated.
The Associated Press reported that the suspect was taken into custody later that Thursday. The university initially alerted students and staff about an active shooter near the Student Union around noon local time.
“The police are present at the scene or en route. We will keep searching for safe locations and await further guidance. Ensure all doors and windows are locked, and be ready to take additional precautions.” This was noted in the message.
Nearly thirty minutes after the first alert, university officials declared that all campus activities and events would be suspended due to a life-threatening situation.
“All classes and university events, including track and field competitions scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, have been called off,” stated FSU. This was included in a follow-up alert.
“Those not currently on the main campus should refrain from coming to the Tallahassee campus,” they added.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Confirmed their presence Alongside FBI agents, on the Tallahassee campus From their Jacksonville office who also stated they were responding. Florida Attorney General James Usmieyer also mentioned that his office was involved.

Videos on social media depicted individuals escaping the campus and raising their hands on nearby Tennessee Street seeking assistance.
President Trump stated that he was informed about the shooting and was receiving ongoing updates.
“I was briefed on the situation at Florida State, Tallahassee, active shooting. I believe there is an active shooter. It was detailed where we stand now,” Trump mentioned to reporters at the White House.
