State Farm Eases Personal Property Payout Burden for L.A. Fire Victims After Talks with Trump’s Grenell

State Farm, the most exposed insurance company in Los Angeles’ recent wildfires, announced Friday it agreed to pay 65% of the value of its personal property claim before requesting itemization.

The company made the announcement after meeting with the special presidential envoy for a special mission in the special mission, which was representing California President Donald Trump during the reconstruction effort.

Grenell posted to X about his discussion with State Farm earlier this week.

Until now, state farms have only guaranteed 50% of the value of personal property against fire losses. To receive a full 100%, the company needed a fielded list of all lost objects. This is a task feared by those who endured the disaster, and because they must revisit the losses for months again.

Other companies either offer a much larger percentage or have completely abolished it as an itemization.

In a statement Friday, the company said:

Our focus continues to support our customers in recovery from the devastating 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles. On April 14, a general insurer on state farms increased prepayments to customers, with no need for inventory and a total loss of 65% from 50% of content. We continue to work with state and federal officials to help our clients and appreciate their involvement.

Content coverage is the advantage of one type within a policy. Another type is residential coverage. This can help you install structures such as garages and structures that are permanently attached to your home or property. Content coverage helps to cover personal property that is not permanently attached to your home or property, such as furniture and electronics.

Approximately 2,500 customers have experienced total losses caused by the January 2025 wildfire.

We understand that this is a difficult time for the affected customers and we are here to help. Our claims handlers help our customers with billing, including content inventory.

Previously, up to 50% of policy content limited the limit to customers who suffered total losses from the January wildfire without requiring detailed personal property inventory. This is already far beyond what California law requires. [30%].

We reach out to customers who have already paid upfront and offer an additional 15%. The customer must sign the form to receive this additional amount.

State Farm continues to face criticism from those who withstand the fires of Pallisard and Eton. The Eton fire says it is limping by delaying tactics like paying bills and switching adjusters.

Grenell is engaged to do more to support policyholders on state farms, but state officials are invisible. California insurance commissioner Ricardo Lara didn’t show up earlier this month for a hearing on demand to raise fees for state farms. He was in Bermuda at a similar hearing in March.
