President Donald Trump repeatedly teased his third term in 2028 at the White House, which is banned by the US Constitution.
Now, a new poll shows that Americans aren’t excited about their prospects.
“It will be the greatest honor of my life,” Trump said in the Nevada rally in late January, within a week of taking office in his second term as president at the Nevada rally in late January.

After joking that his comments were headlined, Trump revealed, “No, it’s going to be serving twice.”
But Trump’s comments were far from a one-off comment as he continues to flirt with his re-election in 2028.

In an interview last month, the president said he was “not kidding” about doing another run in an oval office.

“I want a lot of people to do that,” Trump told NBC News in a phone interview. “But I basically tell them we have a long way to go, that’s a very early stage in the administration.”

The 22nd amendment stands in the Trump way. The constitutionwas ratified in 1951. This amendment prevents an individual from serving more than one term as president. It was ratified after Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected president in four terms.

Public opinion is also clear.
Three-quarters of respondents in A Reuters/Ipsos A national survey conducted April 16-21 and released Monday said Trump should not be run in the third term.

And while the GOP has never been stronger in its grip on the GOP, even the majority of Republicans questioned in polls, 53% said Trump shouldn’t seek a third term.
A poll questioned 4,306 US adults, found that overall positive or negative sampling error was two percentage points.
