London, UK:
Vladimir Putin has offered to stop Russia’s invasion of Ukraine at the current frontline as Donald Trump tries to keep his promise to end the three-year conflict, which the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.
According to FT, citing “people familiar with the matter,” Putin made the proposal during a meeting with US envoy Steve Witkov earlier this month in St. Petersburg.
The Russian leaders have shown they are willing to rescind Moscow’s claims against Donetsk, Luhansk, Harson and parts of Zaporidia.
In return, the US may recognize its sovereignty over the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed in 2014, and may join other major Russian demands, according to the FT, including banning Ukraine from joining NATO.
Kiev and its European allies are demanding a full recovery of Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders.
