President Trump and other world leaders attending Pope Francis’ funeral

The funeral of Pope Francis, 88, who passed away on April 21, is expected to be widely attended by world leaders as well as loyal people expected to travel around the world for the event.

A delegation of about 130 confirmed that they would travel to Rome for funerals at St. Peter’s Cathedral, which includes about 50 provincial leaders and at least 10 more world leaders.

President Donald Trump will travel with his wife, Mrs. Melania Trump, who is a Roman Catholic.

Vice President J.D. Vice President J.D. V. V. V. V., who visited the Pope the night before his death, is not expected to be at the funeral, but his wife, Usha.

Italian media reports suggest that former President Joe Biden will be present.

Just as his father, Charles III, represented the late Queen Elizabeth III at the funeral of Pope John Paul II in 2005, his eldest son, Prince William, who is next on the throne, will attend the funeral on Saturday.

His family is not expected to be with him, but Prime Minister Keer Starmer is expected to attend the Pope’s funeral.

Italy

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reportedly cancelled plans for travel to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan so that he could attend the Pope’s funeral.

In honor of Pope Francis, Meloni, posted on social media the day he passed away, said, “I had the privilege of enjoying his friendship, his advice, his teachings.

Javier Mairei, the president of Pope Francis’ Agentina native, confirmed that he would travel to honor the man he was often critical of.

In a statement issued after the Pope’s death, Mairay said, “Today was a real honor for me, despite the minor differences, despite his goodness and wisdom.”

Ireland

Ireland, a Catholic nation, both President Michael Higgins and Prime Minister Martin will be represented for the Pope’s funeral.

Ukraine

Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky confirmed that he will be attending Pope Francis’ funeral at St. Peter’s Cathedral and in honor of the Pope, “We remember his prayers for the peace of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy last visited the Pope in October 2024.

EU Commission Chairman Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that she will be attending the Pope’s funeral, marking the first events she and Trump have attended since she took office.

Many other world leaders are expected to be present, but not all adversaries, such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the country’s leaders, particularly those who have been critical of human rights concerns like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will not be present on Saturday.
