Trump Urges Putin to ‘Stop Shooting’ and Strike a Deal for Ukraine Amid Disappointment in Russia

Trump 'disappointed' in Russia, tells Putin to 'stop shooting' and sign Ukraine deal

President Trump voiced his dissatisfaction with Russia on Sunday, urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to “cease the attacks” and agree to a peace agreement facilitated by the US to resolve the conflict with Ukraine.

“I want him to halt the attacks and sit down to sign an agreement,” Trump told reporters when asked about his desires concerning the Russian leader at this time.

“We have various proposals. I want him to sign and exchange it,” the president mentioned.

Trump expressed increasing frustration with Putin after Russia initiated its deadliest assault on Kiev in the past nine months last week. Ukrainian officials reported that missile and drone strikes resulted in at least nine fatalities and over 70 injuries, including six or more children.

“We were quite disheartened by the missile strikes launched by Russia,” Trump stated.

This announcement arrives as Trump and his advisors attempted to encourage both parties to reach a peace agreement. Without a prompt contract, the US might “move forward” from efforts to facilitate discussions.

Specifics of the proposal remain undisclosed but have been referenced in a report I’ve been charged. The agreement reportedly includes US acknowledgment of Crimea as part of Russia, as articulated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Ukraine will not legally accept the occupation of Crimea,” Zelensky remarked last week. “There’s nothing to negotiate here.”

Trump was asked on Sunday if Zelensky addressed the Crimea issue when they met prior to Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome the previous day.

“However, Crimea was surrendered by Barack Hussein Obama and Biden,” Trump continued, referencing his Democratic predecessor. “It was 11 or 12 years ago. It’s been a long time. No one has raised the Crimea issue for over 12 years, and now they’re bringing it up.”

“Perhaps go back to Obama and inquire why they abandoned it,” he added, reiterating his critique when Zelensky dismissed the notion of acknowledging Crimea as part of Russia.

On Sunday, Trump characterized his meeting with Zelensky within St. Peter’s Cathedral in the Vatican as “good,” “beautiful,” and “wonderful,” yet noted a “challenging road ahead.”

The US president indicated that Zelensky repeatedly requested weapons, stating, “but for three years he has claimed he needs more arms.”

“We will see what transpires,” Trump remarked. “I want to observe what occurs with Russia.”
