On Friday, Vice President JD Vance made a striking comment, suggesting that President Trump is, in fact, the leader of the Democratic Party. He expressed his dismay over the thoughts of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), calling them “horrifying.”
When interviewed by Brett Byer on Fox News’ Special Report, Vance referred to the potential matchup against Ocasio-Cortez in the 2028 presidential election, saying, “The nightmare AOC President.” He then jokingly lamented, “You ruined my sleep at night,” trying to push aside the unsettling notion that the left-leaning congresswoman could lead the nation.
In recent weeks, Ocasio-Cortez has been critical of Trump, Republicans, and even Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), engaging in what she’s termed her “combat oligarchy” tour.
Her activities, including social media posts and events from her Bronx base, have led some to speculate that she’s considering a run for higher office, perhaps even the presidency.
Some even suggest that during Trump’s second term, Ocasio-Cortez might represent the strongest leadership the Democrats could muster. Yet, Vance countered this narrative, insisting that Trump is, in truth, the dominant figure within the party.
“As long as Democrats have leadership, I think Donald J. Trump is the Democrat, the leader,” Vance remarked. He elaborated that Democrats seem to be against everything Trump does, suggesting it reflects their lack of direction.
“Donald Trump will act however he wants, and the Democrats feel compelled to respond emotionally—objecting to whatever he does,” Vance claimed. He maintained that the Democrats lack genuine leadership.

The absence of new ideas from Democratic leadership reassures Vance about the 2028 elections. “I’m not too worried about 2028,” he stated, “because if I were to wake up in a world where Democrats actually proposed constructive governance, that would be something. But in the reality we live in, I think politics in 2028 will take care of itself.”
