Lorraine Kelly undergoes surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes as a precautionary step | Television & radio

Television presenter Lorraine Kelly has shared that she recently underwent surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes.

At 65, she explained in an Instagram post that the procedure was “purely preventive.” She mentioned it would be done using keyhole surgery and reassured her followers that previous scans showed “no problem at all.”

In her post, Kelly reflected, “I wasn’t feeling that good for a while, so there was a scan and a test. I’ll need to get my ovaries and tubes removed.”

She expressed gratitude for the excellent care from her gynecologist, Dr. Ahmed Rafat, and the hospital staff, saying, “I felt very fortunate to be treated very well.”

As per NHS guidelines, keyhole surgery involves making small incisions to diagnose and address medical issues, typically resulting in a quicker recovery compared to traditional surgery, which generally takes about 6-8 weeks.

Since her announcement, Kelly has received messages of support from fans and celebrity friends, including Julia Bradbury and Katie Piper from Loose Women.

Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid added, “I will send you all the love in the world.”

Remarkably, Kelly is set to celebrate her 40th year in television in 2024, marked by a special episode of her daytime chat show, Lorraine, which has been running since 2010.

Her journey in journalism began at East Kilbride News after she opted out of a university spot to study English and Russian. She then started working with BBC Scotland as a researcher in 1983.

In 1984, Kelly transitioned to television as an on-screen reporter focusing on Scottish news, and by 1990, she launched her presentation career with Good Morning Britain before establishing her own show.
