Ukraine to Get Upgraded Patriot Air Defense System After Signing Mineral Agreement

Following a recent agreement on mineral trade between Washington, DC, and Kiev, the United States is dispatching a refurbished Patriot air defense system to Ukraine as the conflict with Russia continues.

The Patriot system has previously been deployed in Israel and has been upgraded before its transfer to Ukraine. Germany and Greece are exploring logistics to potentially supply additional units.

“President Trump was clear. He hopes that the war in Ukraine will end and the killings will stop,” stated James Hewitt, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council.

Currently, Ukraine operates eight Patriot systems, with two recently renovated. When factoring in additional systems from Israel and Germany or Greece, the total may rise to ten.

The mineral trade deal, along with increased military support after President Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Pope Francis’ funeral, has effectively facilitated the supply of these defense systems to Ukraine.

This trade agreement grants the U.S. priority access to minerals from new Ukrainian projects, with both countries sharing benefits equally. U.S. military contributions will also factor into the Joint Fund.

“We are ready to buy as many Patriot systems as we need for our country,” Zelensky emphasized recently. “This is not about charity.”

In other developments, Russia has initiated a significant drone attack on Kharkiv, striking multiple residential buildings. Local officials reported that 46 individuals sustained injuries due to the assault.

Zelensky has expressed strong condemnation towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, alleging deliberate targeting of civilians.

“There were no military targets either. Russia attacks settlements when Ukrainians are at home and when they put their children to bed,” commented Zelensky.

Zelensky has called on Western allies to expedite the process of providing much-needed assistance.

“As the world slows down decisions, almost every night in Ukraine turns into a fear of losing lives. Ukraine needs stronger air defense. A more decisive and real reaction from our partners: the United States, Europe, and all those seeking peace,” he urged.
