Tragic Incident Off San Diego Coast
On Monday, a panga-style boat washed ashore near San Diego, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving nine more unaccounted for. The US Coast Guard has launched a search for the missing individuals off the coast of Del Mar, following reports that the vessel had overturned.
Upon their arrival, first responders found three people deceased, while four others survived. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office indicated that local lawmakers are supporting the Coast Guard in providing necessary life-saving measures along the beach in the vicinity of the 200 block of Stratford Court.
“You can expect increased law enforcement presence in the area,” officials noted.
The exact circumstances that led to this tragic event remain unclear. Coast Guard officials mentioned they are unsure where the 12-foot boat originated before it capsized.
Injuries were reported among several individuals who were transported to local hospitals. According to Jorge Sanchez, assistant fire chief of the Encinitas Fire Station, assistance was promptly rendered.
About 6:30 AM, hikers and beachgoers at Torrey Pines State Beach observed the boat capsizing.” A nearby doctor informed me that he was witnessing someone administer CPR on the beach,” mentioned a local resident.
Pangas, which are open boats primarily designed for fishing, are frequently used by smugglers.
Interestingly, earlier this year, eight individuals lost their lives when two boats involved in immigrant smuggling approached the San Diego coast in thick fog. Tragically, one of those boats capsized, marking one of the deadliest smuggling incidents in recent history.
