The U.S. Coast Guard has reported that three individuals have lost their lives, while nine others are currently unaccounted for, following a boat capsizing incident off the coast of Southern California on Monday.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene at Torrey Pines State Beach near Del Mar around 7 a.m., as stated by Clem Brown, assistant city manager of Del Mar.
In addition to the fatalities, four people have been hospitalized. The Coast Guard is actively searching for the nine missing individuals.
To assist with the rescue efforts, extra search and rescue vessels have been deployed.
On Monday, rough waters were reported along the California coast; however, it remains unclear how this contributed to the capsizing.
The Coast Guard did confirm that wave heights were between 5 to 7 feet at the time of the incident.
This situation is still unfolding, and more updates are expected as the story develops.
