Coast Guard Saves Beachgoers Posing for Photos While Their Fancy Yacht Goes Down

Over the weekend, a group of social media influencers found themselves stranded on a luxury yacht worth $4 million that was rapidly sinking off Miami Beach. They were ultimately rescued by the Coast Guard and some bystanders.

The US Coast Guard in Miami Beach reported that they and partner agencies responded to a 63-foot vessel taking on water near Monument Island around 5 PM on Saturday, successfully rescuing 32 individuals. They shared several images showing the influencers standing on the yacht as it partially submerged.

The Coast Guard affirmed that no injuries were reported and mentioned that commercial recovery efforts were underway to salvage the vessel.

Local guide Lewis Leon Martinez posted a video on Instagram featuring a montage of the incident, captioning it with “Miami Coast Guard Appeared in Seconds.”

The video opens with clips that seem to have been taken before the yacht began flooding, showcasing the influencers enjoying drinks and taking selfies while music played in the background.

As the situation escalated, footage shifted to the Coast Guard arriving to assist as the yacht visibly filled with water. A man was heard shouting, “You have to open the door, if you open the door, everything will come.”

Despite the chaos, those on board appeared unfazed, joking, “Women and children first!” One influencer in a bikini, donning a life jacket, was seen dancing and laughing as she transferred to another boat.

“Iceberg! Iceberg!” shouted an individual, drawing a parallel to the Titanic disaster, which claimed over 1,500 lives in 1912.

In another part of the footage, influencers were noted clinging to their MacBooks. They filmed the yacht’s sinking.

One off-camera voice remarked, “We respect the Coast Guard.”

The group had set sail on the lavish Lamborghini Technomar Yacht on Saturday. After the rescue, reports indicate that some personal items were salvaged, including a MacBook and a $350 bottle of Clase Azul Gold Tequila, which a former Miss America competitor managed to recover amidst the commotion.

Social media users reacted to Martinez’s posts, poking fun at the influencers who seemed oddly calm in the face of their yacht sinking in the Miami waters.

“No one cares,” one Instagram user commented, observing that everyone appeared more interested in taking selfies than addressing the situation.

Another remarked on the humorous disconnect, noting, “Everyone is laughing as the four-million-dollar boat sinks.” One user added, “Those girls look ridiculous!” suggesting the owner of the yacht was likely far less amused.

Amid the banter, someone noted the unusual effort needed to sink such a yacht, humorously suggesting that anyone in charge of it should have just left the keys and gone home.

Authorities have yet to identify the yacht’s owner or the cause of its sinking. The Technomar is part of a limited edition series designed by Italian manufacturer Lamborghini.

Notably, Irish UFC star Conor McGregor owns a similar yacht, purchased in 2021 for $3.5 million.
