Trump Accuses ‘Grossly Incompetent’ Gavin Newsom of Ruining Hollywood

President Donald Trump has criticized California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, over the mounting challenges facing the U.S. film and television industry.

“Other countries are taking our operational capabilities,” the president remarked to reporters in Washington, D.C.

“Recently, I encountered some solid research, but now it seems I’m hardly producing any films. Hollywood is facing serious decline,” he added.

“We have a terrible, inept governor who has allowed this to happen, so it’s not just other countries I’m pointing fingers at. Many of them are actually hijacking our film industry,” he stated.

“Furthermore, they receive substantial financial support from their governments, which makes it somewhat of a threat to our nation,” he commented.

These remarks followed his recent proposal to impose 100% tariffs on films brought into the U.S. after being made internationally.

Trump shared his thoughts on this proposal on Truth Social on Sunday.

“The American film industry is rapidly declining,” he noted. “Other nations are providing various incentives to draw filmmakers and studios away from the U.S. Parts of Hollywood, and much of the U.S., are struggling. This situation reflects a coordinated effort from other countries, and on top of everything, I’m acknowledging the 100 years of film that are produced abroad but come to our nation.”
