Multiple elephant seals were stabbed on an Oregon beach, prompting federal officials to search for the culprit behind this shocking act.
A young seal, incredibly resilient, suffered numerous stab wounds in a cove near Proposal Rock in Nescowin between 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on March 16th. This information was released on Monday by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA).
The Marine Mammal Stranding Team provided care for the seal before relocating it, according to authorities.
Investigators have developed a description of a person of interest and are reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying him.
The suspect is described as a white male around 5 feet 10 inches tall, with black-and-white hair, a well-groomed beard, and a noticeable gap between his front teeth.
Witnesses informed federal officials that the suspect wore a simple black cap featuring a logo of an orange four-track excavator with the word “wood.” He was also seen with dark pants, a light blue and green fleece top, aviator glasses, and slip-on shoes.
Additionally, the attacker sported a checkered shirt and lightweight hiking shoes.
Authorities noted the presence of a dark blue Dodge or Chrysler van from the 1990s, which had plastic covering on the rear passenger windows on the driver’s side.
Harassment, harm, or killing of wild elephant seals is strictly prohibited, with penalties of imprisonment and fines that can reach up to $100,000.
