Ariel Winter moved away from Los Angeles after facing the difficult attention that came with her early fame.

Ariel Winter Exits Los Angeles to Find Healing After Troubled Childhood

Ariel Winter, known for her role as Alex Dunphy on “Modern Family,” has decided to leave Los Angeles in search of a fresh start, partly to escape the challenges of growing up under public scrutiny.

At 27, Winter reflected on her transition from a child star to a young adult and how unkind remarks about her appearance affected her self-esteem. “It was everywhere,” she shared. “All the headlines critiqued how I looked, whether I was too fat or even pregnant. I was just 14, and it really took a toll on me.”

“I understood what it felt like to be disliked,” Winter added, recalling her struggles. She tried to find confidence by affirming herself in the mirror, saying, “I love this version.”

She revealed that her childhood wasn’t only troubled by fame; she faced alleged abuse from her mother, a claim her mother denies. When she was 14, Winter was placed into protective custody along with her sister, Shanelle Grey.

“I was under her care and tried to make the most of my teenage years,” Winter stated, hinting at a complicated upbringing.

Winter described her past trauma as “really deep,” expressing that it’s more profound than she feels ready to discuss publicly—”It hurts so much, and I’m still processing it all.”

After wrapping up “Modern Family” in 2020, Winter and her boyfriend, actor Luke Benward, took the plunge to leave the city. However, she clarified, “I didn’t exit the industry; I just moved away from Los Angeles.” She cherishes her memories there but notes the city isn’t essential for her work anymore. “If you’re not filming a network show, there’s no real reason to stay.”

Despite her move, Winter continues to pursue her passions, including launching a podcast and creating cooking shows. She is focused on carving out a new path while healing from the past.

Ariel Winter is still very much active in the world of acting, looking to build a fulfilling life away from the spotlight that once magnified her struggles.
