Tragic Fire Claims Lives of Two Young Children

Two young children lost their lives in the hospital following a devastating fire at their family’s home, increasing the death toll to three.

The incident took place early Wednesday at a residence near Harristown, located about 130 kilometers west of Brisbane in the Darling Downs region.

Six individuals, including two adults and four children, managed to escape the blaze, with the four children believed to be connected to the deceased.

The two girls, aged 4 and 7, were airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital, where they later succumbed to severe burns.

Authorities reported that the nine-year-old boy’s body was discovered in the charred remains of the home, although he has yet to be formally identified.

Neighbors recalled hearing the occupants call out their names as they fled the scene, prior to the discovery of the bodies.

The house has been declared a crime scene as police continue to investigate the fire, with a murder detective involved.

The police are treating the fire as suspicious, according to a statement from Queensland Police on Thursday.

A 36-year-old woman remains in critical condition at Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital under police supervision.

Two men, aged 34, were transported to Toowoomba Hospital and are now stable despite serious injuries. An 18-year-old was reported to have sustained injuries to his hand.

Fortunately, an 11-year-old who escaped the flames did not suffer any injuries.

“This is a tragic event, and we are deeply saddened by this incident,” Detective Renee Garsuke expressed on Wednesday.
