Head coach Sheron Moore of Michigan’s football team is likely to face a suspension for two games during the 2025 season. This is part of voluntary sanctions related to the Conor Stallion scouting scandal that emerged in 2023.
Moore, who took over as head coach after Jim Harbaugh’s exit, has been associated with deleted text messages exchanged with Stallion. These messages are believed to pertain to a scheme suspected of sign stealing, exchanged on the same day.
Reports indicate that the messages were eventually retrieved through “device imaging,” according to a draft notice from the NCAA claim acquired in 2024.
Urban Meyer, former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach, shared his thoughts on this situation, stating that lying as a college coach effectively ends your career. He emphasized that it’s more than just sending texts or meeting with people; it’s about maintaining integrity within the sport.
Meyer acknowledged that while his perspective might seem harsh, he believes suspicious actions simply can’t be overlooked. He mentioned the serious implications when coaches face scrutiny and either fail to cooperate or lie during investigations.
Stallion was suspended in October 2023 and resigned from the Michigan football program shortly after. By August 2024, he had secured a position as defensive coordinator at Detroit Mumford High School.
