Man faces murder charges following stabbing at a Derby bank

A man has been charged with the murder of a customer at a modest and tranquil bank in Derby city center.

Haybe Nur Cabdiraxmaan, 47, faces allegations of killing 37-year-old Gurvinder Johal, who succumbed to injuries after an incident at the Lloyds Bank branch on St. Peter’s Street shortly after 2:30 PM on Tuesday.

Cabdiraxmaan, from Mick Louver in Derby, is set to appear in Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Samantha Shallow, representing the Crown Prosecutor’s Office in the East Midlands, noted that charges were filed following a police review of the evidence.

She further emphasized, “The Crown Prosecutor’s Office reminds us that the criminal case against the defendant is ongoing and he is entitled to a fair trial.

“It’s crucial that reporting, commentary, or online sharing that could jeopardize these proceedings does not occur.”

Johal, reportedly known to his friends, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after emergency services arrived around 2:35 PM that day.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph on Wednesday, Ajit Atwal, leader of the Derby City Council’s Liberal Democrat group and a friend of Johal, described him as a good businessman and a humble, kind individual who consistently went out of his way to help others.
