Sanders Critiques Both Parties as Corrupt
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) expressed strong discontent with both political parties during an interview on Fox News, characterizing them as “largely corrupt” and more aligned with billionaires than everyday citizens.
When asked about the Democratic Party’s current public rating, Sanders pointed to the influence of money in politics. “People see the corruption within the political system, which involves many from both parties,” he stated.
He elaborated, saying, “Billionaires in both parties decide who the candidates will be.” This, according to him, affects the democratic process significantly.
Sanders provided examples of this issue within the Republican Party, expressing his discomfort with former President Trump’s policies. He mentioned, “When I criticize Trump’s approach toward Medicaid and education, the next day I see Elon Musk indicating he’ll support candidates in the primaries against me.”
He also referenced the American Israeli Commission on Public Affairs (AIPAC), criticizing its influence on political decisions regarding Israel. Sanders stated, “When I question funding for [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s military actions, which are harming children in Gaza, I could face opposition from AIPAC.”
He emphasized, “We have a corrupt campaign finance system. Both parties are influenced by billionaires, and Americans are aware of this.”
Sanders, who previously ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020, has continued to voice his concerns about the major parties since the 2024 election. Alongside Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), he is currently on a “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, aimed at raising awareness about wealth inequality and corruption in government.
The pair have also pointed out reductions in social program funding, especially during the Trump presidency, highlighting cuts to Medicaid and workforce layoffs in the federal sector.
