Prashanth Menon, Tesla’s Head in India, Steps Down as the Company Gets Ready to Launch in the Country.

The head of Tesla in India stepped down on Thursday, marking a significant moment as the company looks to expand into one of the largest automotive markets in the world after nearly nine years in operation.

According to reports citing unnamed sources, Tesla’s operations in India are currently managed by a team based in China.

Prashanth Menon also resigned from his position as the chairman of Tesla India’s board of directors.

Despite long-term plans to enter the Indian market, Tesla has not provided immediate comments in response to inquiries from Reuters.

The Indian government is negotiating a trade agreement with the US, which could include reduced tariffs on vehicles, presenting a potential opportunity for Tesla. The company has already secured a location for a showroom to begin selling imported cars in India this year.

In addition, Tesla has posted nearly 20 mid-level job openings in India, covering roles in stores, services, and customer relationship management, indicating movement towards launching operations in the country.
