Eric Adams strongly defends his decision not to join the Republican Party during a heated interview with Piers Morgan before his meeting with Trump in DC.

On Thursday, Mayor Eric Adams of New York City found himself under scrutiny during an intense interview with Piers Morgan. Morgan challenged him not only to “go for the whole pig” and switch parties but also pointed out his upcoming trip to meet President Trump in the capital.

The conversation got quite heated as Morgan, a British journalist known for his work with the New York Post, probed into what he described as a troubled relationship between Adams and the independent commander’s ambitions.

At one point, Morgan asked, “If you support much of what Trump is doing, why not just run as a Republican?” It was a direct shot at Adams’s independent status during a lengthy back-and-forth.

“I mean, running as an independent seems to align with what Andrew Cuomo has been wanting for his own mayoral ambitions,” Morgan continued. “There’s a real risk here of splitting the vote. You’ve mentioned that concern yourself, right? So, if you’re on board with a lot of Trump’s agenda, why not just go with it? Why not join the Republican Party?”

Adams was quick to defend himself.

“You know, it’s interesting,” he started, “I’ve watched many of your shows but never seen you try to misinterpret my position like this. I’m not aligned with anyone—I’m focused on what’s best for New Yorkers.”

He added, “I don’t think I gave any impression of being strictly in line with one ideology. I support what President Biden has done, and that’s where I stand.”

As the discussion continued, it became clear that Adams faced considerable backlash, especially regarding his association with Trump, which some viewed as controversial just as a federal judge put an end to a significant corruption case against him.

This contentious interview took place just as City Hall announced that Adams was set to travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with Trump.
