Montana Governor Greg Gianforte (R) enacted a law on Thursday that bans red flag laws across cities and municipalities in the state.
The legislation, known as HB 809, not only outlaws red flag laws but also prevents cities from receiving grants meant to support their adoption or enforcement.
After signing the bill, Gianforte shared his thoughts on X:
He emphasized his commitment to maintaining and enhancing Montana’s pro-Second Amendment environment.
On April 23, 2025, Breitbart News noted Gianforte’s call for semi-automatic gun manufacturers in Colorado to move to Montana following a new ban in that state.
He stated, “Colorado is among the top states for the gun industry. My question to manufacturers there is straightforward: Want to come back to America? Montana is ready for business.”
A press release from Gianforte highlights that Montana is a “constitutional carry state” and restricts the enforcement of federal laws, executive orders, or regulations that limit the right to own or use firearms and related accessories.
