Vice President JD Vance shared his perspective on the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, stating that this conflict “is essentially not any of our business.”
In an appearance on Fox News, Vance expressed his belief that the United States should refrain from intervening in the South Asian conflict. He remarked, “We can’t control these countries… we are not going to become involved in a war that has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it.”
These remarks came after President Donald Trump had previously offered the U.S.’s assistance in mending relations between the two nations. Trump, speaking to reporters, voiced his desire for both countries to find a resolution, saying, “I know both very well. I want to see them solve it. I want to see them stop.”
In contrast to Trump’s conciliatory tone, Vance stressed that while the conflicts should be alleviated, it’s unrealistic for the U.S. to expect a complete lack of aggression. He also emphasized that the U.S. lacks authority over either country’s actions, stating, “The US cannot tell Indians to throw their arms away, nor can they tell Pakistanis to put their arms down.” Both countries must navigate this issue through diplomacy.
Recently, India launched significant military operations directed at Pakistan and the areas of Kashmir overseen by Pakistan. Indian officials explained that the purpose of the operation was to weaken what they termed “terrorist infrastructure” after a recent attack in India-controlled Kashmir that left 26 people dead. This incident has been labeled as one of the deadliest assaults on Indian civilians in years. Meanwhile, Pakistan has denied any responsibility for the attacks.
