Democrats Criticized for Ice Facility Raid
The White House has taken aim at Democrats for allegedly prioritizing illegal foreign welfare over American citizens, following a raid at a New Jersey ice facility that officials claim “completely breaks the law.”
On Friday, New Jersey lawmakers, including Rob Menendez Jr., Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Lamonica McQuiver, visited Ice’s Delaney Hall detention center in Newark. They were accompanied by protesters as they rushed through the gates to meet arriving ice buses, bypassing security, according to a spokesperson.
Newark Mayor Las Baraka was among those arrested for demanding that three council members be allowed to conduct what he called “surveillance visits” to the facility.
Baraka, who is also a candidate for governor, was charged with trespassing, as stated by authorities.
The White House has rebuked the Democrats for their actions, labeling it as crossing a line. A spokesperson for the White House remarked, “As usual, Democrats prioritize illegal foreign welfare over American citizens. They now tread into the territory of meaningless political theatrics and law-breaking.”
In contrast, some activists assert that the new owner of the facility, Geo Group, is blocking necessary inspections. A lawsuit filed on April 1 claims that the GEO Group has denied access to a safety inspector, thereby violating the City Construction Code.
The Department of Homeland Security has dismissed the allegations from Newark officials as unfounded.
