Tim McMahon from ESPN addressed allegations that Draymond Green portrays himself as an “angry black man.” The journalist expressed his frustration during a recent podcast discussion, saying, “Oh, God. Just stop, Draymond. Don’t play the victim here. We’re exhausted by your antics.” He criticized Green for pushing boundaries repeatedly and clarified that the incidents involving his behavior on the court weren’t part of any hidden agenda to portray his teammates negatively.
Green made headlines for receiving yet another technical foul during a game, which was filled with dramatic moments. He had an incident with Minnesota’s Naz Reid, in which he appeared to exaggerate a foul after a play in the second quarter.
This postseason, he has racked up five technical fouls over nine games, nearing a penalty threshold that would result in a suspension. The Timberwolves also noted that some fans directed “racially charged comments” toward Green, contributing to the tension during the game.
In comments that followed the game, Green expressed frustration about being depicted as angry. He stated, “I looked like an angry black man. I’m not that. I’m a well-educated, successful black man with a great family.” He criticized the notion of him being unfairly portrayed, declaring it “absurd.”
Warriors coach Steve Kerr acknowledged Green’s competitive drive, which sometimes leads to controversial situations. McMahon pointed out that Green seems to find himself in these kinds of predicaments often. Throughout his career, Green has faced suspension multiple times, citing a notable instance during the 2016 NBA Finals.
McMahon questioned why Green continually finds himself involved in conflicts during crucial games. As the Warriors prepare to take on the Timberwolves in an important Game 3, the match is set for Saturday night at 8:30 p.m., with Minnesota favored by 5.5 points.
