Jayson Tatum’s wheelchair video raises concerns among fans as the Celtics face uncertainty.

As Game 4 came to a close in Madison Square Garden, Jason Tatum was seen in a wheelchair, visibly distressed, covering his face as he was taken for further assessment.

Earlier, the Celtics star had to be helped from the court, crumpled on the floor while trying to grab a loose ball, clearly in pain.

“You can see how distraught Jason Tatum is right now,” ESPN commentator Mike Breen remarked as the broadcast showed him in the wheelchair.

After playing through significant discomfort for an extended time, there are concerns beyond just the playoffs, especially with the Celtics now trailing 3-1 following a 120-113 loss.

Tatum is set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday, and there are serious worries about a potential Achilles or ACL injury, which could sideline him for a significant part of the next season.

“Tatum has logged more minutes than any other player since being drafted and has only missed consecutive games due to injuries once in his entire career,” tweeted user @lissmx14. “If he has a torn Achilles at just 27, it would be a devastating blow for someone who epitomizes durability.”

The nature of Tatum’s injury could have broader implications for the league, especially given the serious projections surrounding his condition.

Physiotherapist Dr. Evan Jeffries expressed concern after watching footage that suggested possible Achilles tears.

“There are different perspectives, but I’m not optimistic about Jason Tatum’s prognosis,” he mentioned, sharing a video that highlighted the vibration in Tatum’s calf after a step back.

The Celtics face significant challenges not just due to injury but also as they navigate through this Eastern Conference semi-final, following up a 2024 championship with unexpected difficulties this season.

Given the luxury tax issues stemming from their new ownership, the Celtics could have to consider a restructured team, especially if Tatum’s situation develops unfavorably.

“Jason Tatum has maintained a remarkable track record of health throughout his career, but the possibility of an Achilles injury adds a concerning twist. The reality is starting to set in—this team may look quite different the next time he plays,” he added.

Nevertheless, before considering their season effectively over, the Celtics need to secure one more win, as they head into Game 5 with a four-point favorite status according to Draft Kings.

“He’s our brother, and it’s tough to see him hurting. We need to find a way to win Game 5,” commented Celtics player Derrick White.
