Father allegedly takes the lives of his family and himself in a murder-suicide on the same day as his son’s graduation.

Tragic Family Incident in Nebraska

Authorities in Nebraska are investigating a suspected triple murder-suicide involving a father who allegedly killed his wife and two children before taking his own life. This tragic event unfolded on the same day that his son graduated from high school.

Deputies from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at a residence near Johnson Lake. Upon arriving, they found four individuals who had sustained fatal knife wounds. Reports indicate that a knife was recovered at the crime scene.

The victims have been identified as Jeremy Koch, 42; his wife, Bailey Koch, 41; and their two sons, 18-year-old Hudson and 16-year-old Asher.

In a troubling revelation, reports from a relative suggest that Hudson claimed his father was responsible for the deaths before taking his own life. However, the family has an 11-year-old daughter who survived and may provide a different account.

Just days prior to this tragedy, Bailey Koch had initiated a GoFundMe campaign titled “The Battle of Jeremy: Need Mental Health Support.” In her descriptions, she expressed concern about her husband’s mental health struggles, noting that he had attempted suicide multiple times, including a serious incident in 2012 when he darted into traffic.

Bailey mentioned that Jeremy had been diagnosed with severe depression back in 2009 but seemed to manage to stay stable for several years until a recent decline. She mentioned that his mental health issues impacted his ability to work in the family landscaping business.

In a heartbreaking detail, Bailey recounted a scene where Jeremy was found standing on their bed with a knife, ready to take his life. She said he had recently checked into a mental health facility but had been discharged just before his son’s graduation.

Bailey recounted that Jeremy reacted poorly to adjustments in his mental health medication, which added to the family’s distress as they celebrated the graduation. She had planned to postpone any further hospital visits until after that significant event.

Thankful for the support received through the crowdfunding efforts, Bailey expressed her gratitude, stating, “I can’t fully appreciate your support… through finances, messages, and prayers.” The campaign successfully raised over $20,000 before concluding.

The beloved family members were deeply rooted in their community. Bailey worked as a special education teacher, and the boys were active students; Hudson was set to pursue a third-year apprenticeship in California, while Asher excelled in golf.

The Kozad schools acknowledged the impact of these tragic events on the community and expressed their condolences, recognizing the pain felt by many.

The investigation continues as the community grapples with the loss and the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident.
