Trump Calls on Saudi Arabia to Acknowledge Israel, Emphasizing U.S.-Driven ‘Abraham Accords’

During a speech to Saudi officials on May 13, 2025, President Donald Trump called on the oil-rich nation to officially recognize Israel, framing it as a significant personal honor.

The Abraham Accord, facilitated by the US in Trump’s presidency, normalized diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab nations, beginning in 2020 with the UAE and Bahrain, later joined by Morocco and Sudan. This marked a pivotal change in Middle Eastern diplomacy, establishing official connections with Israel while promoting cooperation in trade, tourism, and security. The term “Abraham” highlights the shared religious heritage among Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

Throughout his address, Trump acknowledged Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who was seated prominently observing the event.

“With the historic Abraham agreement we are so proud of, all momentum was aimed at peace and was extremely successful,” Trump stated.

“It’s amazing, the Accord of Abraham, and even the hopes, wishes and my dreams of Saudi Arabia, a place I admire, especially for the last rather short period of time, and what you can do will soon be part of Abraham’s agreement.”

“I think it’s an incredible respect for your country. It’s going to be important for the future of the Middle East. I took a risk to do them.”

Trump also offered a stark warning regarding Iran, advocating for “large maximum pressure” and committing to decrease Iran’s oil exports to zero if they do not comply with the updated nuclear agreement.
