Federal prosecutor in Massachusetts warns of arrests for hindering ICE activities

Federal prosecutors in Massachusetts have warned about potential arrests for anyone obstructing ICE operations, describing recent interference as “intrusive.” This statement from U.S. Attorney Leah Foley follows a tense video from Worcester, where crowds reacted to immigration enforcement actions.

Foley emphasized that hindrances to ICE operations pose a significant safety risk. She expressed strong disapproval of actions that disrupt these operations, stating that the U.S. Attorney’s Office is investigating violations of federal law related to such disturbances.

The Department of Homeland Security indicated that certain members of the Massachusetts City Council have incited chaos, labeling this interference as a significant issue. Last week’s footage depicted a chaotic scene during an ICE arrest in Worcester, with around 25 people present.

Homeland Security Advisor Tricia McLaughlin noted that District Councilor Etel Haxhiaj’s political actions had contributed to confusion, saying that law enforcement regained control of the situation. Reports indicate that a pregnant woman faced charges for assault related to the incident.

Footage captured protests from residents, some chanting phrases like “Don’t take your mother!” as a woman was taken into custody. The video showed emotional responses, with people attempting to stand in front of the vehicle as it departed.

During the chaotic scene, there was physical pushing between CBP agents and bystanders. The Worcester Police then declared the situation an illegal gathering and warned of possible arrests, leading to the eventual removal of the ICE vehicle from the area.
