Jamie Lee Curtis Reflects on Past Plastic Surgery and Addiction Struggles
Jamie Lee Curtis revealed that a critical comment from a director during the filming of the 1985 movie “Perfect” impacted her self-esteem significantly. She recalled him saying, “Yeah, I wasn’t shooting her today. Her eyes are baggy.” Curtis, only 25 at the time, felt embarrassed and decided to undergo plastic surgery right after filming.
“It’s not something you want to do when you’re 25 or 26,” she explained, adding that she immediately regretted the decision. “I regret it right away and have regretted it ever since.”
She expressed concern over current plastic surgery trends, stating they are “wiping away the beauty of a generation.” Reflecting on the treatments and fillers that have become commonplace, she urged others to embrace their natural beauty.
In addition to discussing her experiences with plastic surgery, Curtis has been candid about her past struggles with substance dependency. “I was very engrossed in the warm baths of drugs,” she admitted. While she maintained a low profile about her drinking at the time, she acknowledged it became a dependency.
Speaking of her past, Curtis described herself in 2019 as someone managing a “controlled drug addiction.” She explained that she would avoid using drugs during work hours, choosing instead late afternoons and evenings for her struggles. This pattern of use led to her reliance on painkillers, especially following surgeries.
Her journey toward recovery began in February 1999 when she attended her first meeting, inspired by a story she read in a magazine. At that time, she felt terrified about potentially being recognized, revealing her vulnerability during her recovery process.
In her candid discussions about addiction, Curtis has often pointed to the connection between her surgeries and her struggles. She once stated that these procedures led her to develop an obsession with Vicodin, but she has been sober for 22 years now.
In recent years, Curtis has shared her reflections on social media to connect with others who may be struggling. She posted a throwback photo of herself with alcoholic drinks, noting her journey and the importance of support in maintaining her sobriety.
Overall, Curtis’s openness about her experiences serves as both a cautionary tale and an encouragement for others to seek help and embrace their true selves, flaws and all.
