Trump seeks a meeting with Putin after the Russian leader turns down a meeting with Ukraine’s President Zelensky.

In Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, President Trump expressed a desire to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as possible, once high-level discussions regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict have concluded.

“We’ll set it up as soon as we can,” Trump mentioned to reporters during his Middle Eastern trip, referring to potential timing for his meeting with Putin.

He noted that he was optimistic about a meeting taking place between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Turkey, marking the first face-to-face negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing three-year war in Ukraine.

Zelensky was prepared to meet with Putin, however, the Russian leader opted not to attend and sent a representative instead.

Trump had hoped to stop in Turkey on his return to Washington to facilitate discussions between the two nations, but acknowledged that Putin was reluctant to participate.

“We’re going to get it done,” Trump remarked, expressing confidence about achieving a peace agreement.
