Trump’s significant proposal faces a major setback before the House vote.

President Donald Trump’s ambitious “Big Beautiful Building” initiative did not clear the House Budget Committee on Friday.

Key representatives, including Chip Roy from Texas and others, gathered for a committee meeting aimed at discussing this substantial legislation, which was shaped by the efforts of eleven different House committees. The intent? To craft policies that align with Trump’s agenda on issues like immigration, taxes, energy, and defense.

Even though there was considerable buzz in the hallways outside the meeting, media coverage seemed sparse, leaving many wondering about the intricacies of the process.

Representative Brandon Gill, unexpectedly appearing at the Cannon House Office Building despite earlier indications that he would miss the meeting due to his new baby, caught reporters off guard. His attendance added some unpredictability, and ultimately, the committee managed to pass at least one piece of legislation despite losing two Republican votes.

Interestingly, right before the meeting started, Roy, Norman, Clyde, and Bretzin abruptly exited the room, offering little explanation to reporters. They returned later to voice their objections during their opening statements.

At one moment, Norman emerged to request a pause in the proceedings, expressing worries about the Finance Hawks. “If they’re counting on a vote now, it’s unlikely to go smoothly,” he remarked.

Shortly after, a meeting was held with a holdout not on the committee. Steve Scully, the majority leader, shared that he was optimistic about advancing the budget panel “as soon as possible.” When asked about Norman’s earlier comments, he acknowledged having just met with him and indicated that answers to their concerns would be forthcoming from the Trump administration.
