Trump Criticizes Ukraine’s Use of US Aid
Former President Trump has voiced concerns about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly misusing billions in U.S. aid intended for Ukraine amid ongoing conflict.
During a recent interview with Fox News’ Brett Byer, Trump expressed frustration over the funds allocated to Kiev, indicating that this issue has weighed more heavily on him than the overall financial support Washington has provided since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022.
“Money is money,” Trump remarked. “What really bothered me was not just the money itself—I felt angry.” He seemed particularly upset about the substantial checks sent every time Zelensky visited Washington.
In response to Byer’s question about possible new sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump criticized Zelensky’s efforts, stating, “I hated seeing a check sent for $600 billion every time he traveled to D.C.”
Interestingly, Trump acknowledged Zelensky’s persuasive skills, saying, “I think he’s the greatest salesman in the world. Far better than me.” He then questioned the destination of the funds being sent.
Even when Byer attempted to steer the conversation back towards Putin, Trump continued to express his discomfort regarding Ukrainian funding. “We send money; we don’t always provide equipment. I wonder where it ends up,” he noted. He also emphasized that European nations should contribute more to the war effort, asserting that the U.S. is “greater” than Europe in terms of support for Ukraine.
Officials have reported that Ukraine has nearly exhausted the funds approved by Congress for assistance by June, with the U.S. having allocated around $175 billion since the war began. Meanwhile, Trump has hinted at a desire to meet with Putin, suggesting, “I think we’ll do that quickly,” adding that he believes Putin is looking for a way out of the conflict.
