Iran’s president urges ongoing nuclear talks and challenges Trump’s threats.

Iran president calls for continued nuclear negotiations, questions Trump threats

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of ongoing nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, describing President Trump’s messages as “contradictory.”

“Trump doesn’t necessarily believe his own statements about Iran,” Pezeshkian remarked. “While he talks about peace and stability, he simultaneously issues threats using advanced weaponry. This sends mixed signals of peace, violence, and uncertainty.” He made these comments while addressing naval officials on Saturday morning.

“We aren’t pursuing war, but we support negotiation and dialogue. That said, we aren’t intimidated by threats. We will stand firm on our legal rights,” he further asserted.

Officials from the U.S. and Iran have had four rounds of talks concerning Iran’s burgeoning nuclear program. Recently, Trump presented a formal proposal for a new nuclear deal to Iran, stating, “They know they need to act quickly.”

However, Iran has claimed that it did not receive any formal proposal from the U.S.

“The messaging we are receiving is both unclear and contradictory,” remarked Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi on social media. “Nonetheless, Iran is steadfast in its determination. We demand respect for our rights, the lifting of sanctions, and a deal,” he added.

Since assuming office, Trump has insisted on establishing a new nuclear agreement with Iran, emphasizing that Tehran cannot possess nuclear weapons and must eliminate enriched uranium. In 2018, he withdrew from the 2015 Obama-era deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran.

Trump has also warned that military action could be an option if diplomacy fails.

“It’s not just a matter of threats. We’re distancing ourselves from humanity and unaddressed rights,” Pezeshkian stated on Saturday. “We will not retreat and will uphold our significant military, academic, scientific, and nuclear advancements.”
