Controversial Call for H-1B Visa Changes
In the U.S., an Indian man is making headlines with his demand for all H-1B visas to be canceled, suggesting that visa holders should return to their home countries. He stated that the program should be terminated, arguing it has no relation to enhancing America’s competitiveness. He claims that the major competitors of the U.S. don’t rely heavily on foreign workers.
This statement came after Joy’s response to a post by Republican Representative Rich McCormick, who had shown support for extending the domestic visa renewal process for H-1B and similar low-risk visa holders. McCormick mentioned the need to modernize the visa system to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
no. All H-1B visas will expire, and you will need to terminate the program and send the visa holders back to your home country. It has nothing to do with competing in America. Our major national competitors don’t bring in a large number of foreign workers.

Despite Joy’s assertive stance, many users expressed their disagreement. One user noted that the current system is exploited and directly affects American job opportunities.
The H-1B visa program permits employers to hire skilled foreign professionals who hold at least a bachelor’s degree. Initial visas are valid for three years and can be extended to six years, with further extensions possible depending on residency efforts.
Currently, H-1B visa holders must travel to their home country’s U.S. embassy for renewals, a process that often leads to delays and uncertainty.
To mitigate these issues, a pilot program was introduced in 2024, allowing specific H-1B holders to renew their visas while still in the United States, a recommendation made by Indian-American entrepreneur Ajay Jain Bhutoria.
On May 15, Bhutoria, who has been a strong advocate for domestic visa renewals, highlighted the growing support for this initiative on social media.
According to his website, Bhutoria has extensive experience in influencing change at various levels, including politics and the technology sector.
He expressed enthusiasm over the bipartisan backing for the visa renewal initiative, calling the pilot program a significant advancement and urging ongoing discussion on the matter.
I’m excited to see bipartisan support for domestic visa renewals! The pilot programme was launched on my recommendation to the Whiaanhpi Commission and what the state has implemented is a step forward. @secrubio domestic visa renewal is the correct move. I’m glad to share the details!

The proposal has garnered signatures from various congressional members, including Suhas Subramanyam, Raja Krishnamoorti, and Ro Kanna, alongside McCormick and other representatives.
