Brooks Koepka’s PGA Championship Response
Brooks Koepka encountered some hecklers at the PGA Championship on Friday, but it seemed they weren’t really looking for a confrontation.
After missing the cut by nine strokes across the first two rounds, Koepka addressed a fan who commented about his lucrative guarantee to join LIV Golf in 2022. He challenged the heckler with, “Do you want to come here and say that?” while filming a video amid the crowd, somewhat enclosed by barriers.
Interestingly, the crowd fell silent for the remainder of the clip.
At 35, Koepka has celebrated five major wins over his career, including two U.S. Opens and three PGA Championships, making him currently tied for 15th in all-time major wins.
This marks the first time he missed the cut at a PGA Championship, a stark contrast to last year when he made it through all four majors, though he had a disappointing tie for 26th then.
Back in March, Fred Couples expressed surprise when Koepka hinted at wanting to return to the PGA Tour during a radio interview.
Koepka stated, “There is a contractual obligation to meet here [at LIV] and then we’ll see what happens,” which raises questions about his feelings toward LIV Golf.
Phil Mickelson weighed in, referring to the couple’s heckling as “low class jerk moves.” Yet, the couple seemed to remain optimistic when discussing their potential return to the tour, even if Koepka looked a bit less than enchanted about his LIV Golf experience.
While the specifics of Koepka’s contract are not public, it’s suggested that it might escalate in 2026. The future of collaborations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is still uncertain.
