Vatican reveals friendly discussion between Vance and the pope

Vice President Vance Meets with Pope Leo XIV

On Monday, Vice President Vance engaged in a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, which the Vatican described as a “heartfelt discussion.”

During their conversation, they delved into topics around religion and religious freedom, as well as exchanging insights on pressing international matters. The Pope expressed his desire for peace in both Gaza and Ukraine.

Vance sent warm regards on behalf of President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, extending an invitation for the Pope to visit the White House.

Pope Leo XIV had made history last week by becoming the first American pope.

Vice President Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, previously met Pope Francis last month. He follows in the footsteps of former President Biden, marking the second Catholic Vice President and later the second Catholic President in U.S. history.

Notably, Vance’s presence at Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural Mass and subsequent discussions drew attention, especially since the bishop had earlier critiqued Vance’s views on immigration.
