Ongoing Manhunt in New Orleans Following Prison Escape
The Governor of Louisiana has issued a firm warning to supporters of the recent escapees from a New Orleans prison, emphasizing that they could face prison time for their involvement.
A manhunt commenced early Friday morning after surveillance footage captured ten inmates fleeing. Authorities have since managed to recapture three of the escapees, including some linked to serious charges like murder, domestic abuse, and robbery. The FBI is offering rewards of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the capture of the remaining fugitives. It appears that the prison break may have been facilitated by internal complicity.
“Not only those who may have helped them escape, but also those who continue to assist them—if we find out you helped these fugitives, you could end up in jail too,” the Governor warned on Monday.
The Governor indicated that law enforcement has been receiving tips throughout the day and believes that most of the fugitives are still in New Orleans. There are also concerns that they may have moved to other jurisdictions outside the city.
“We have men and women working around the clock,” he asserted. “We’re committed to tracking these individuals down, and we’re going back to prisons to ensure similar situations don’t happen again.”
In a broader context, the Governor reflected on the challenges facing the city’s criminal justice system, citing past influences like significant political funding as contributing factors to its current state.
