Body discovered in ‘haunted’ Georgia lake belongs to father of five who was missing

The remains of five fathers, who went missing while kayaking on Lake Lanier, have been discovered.

Dustin Valencia, 43, was reported missing by his wife on Wednesday after he didn’t arrive to pick up their children from school.

Authorities later located Valencia’s body on Friday in a cove, buried 51 feet beneath the surface of the lake.

Officials stated that the group, described as devoted fathers and triathletes, had gone kayaking, but their inflatable rafts were unaccounted for.

A comprehensive search effort commenced on Thursday, involving extensive land and water resources, including drones and specialized marine equipment.

Family and friends participated in the search for Valencia as well.

Lake Lanier, where Valencia vanished, was created in the 1950s by flooding a town, including its forest and cemetery.

Since 1994, over 200 incidents leading to fatalities have been reported in this lake, with many locals believing it to be haunted.

One popular legend centers around “The Lady of the Lake,” said to be a ghostly figure of a woman who perished in a car accident and now wanders in a blue dress during the night.

The details surrounding Valencia’s death are still being investigated, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
