Melania Trump Appears with President in Rose Garden for Signing of Supported Revenge Porn Legislation

Melania Trump Supports “Take It Down Act” Signing

On Monday, Melania Trump accompanied President Donald Trump in the Rose Garden to officially sign the “Take It Down Act,” a piece of legislation she has openly backed.

The “Take It Down Act” aims to address the rising problems of AI deepfakes and revenge porn. Melania emphasized that the bill aligns with her “Be Best” initiative. Initially introduced by Senator Ted Cruz from Texas and Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota, this bipartisan legislation received unanimous approval in the Senate in February. The U.S. House of Representatives followed suit, passing the law in late April, culminating in the signing ceremony at the White House.

The First Lady, dressed in a stylish grey blazer and skirt, walked alongside the President to the signing spot.

This new law targets online publications that generate explicit images and videos without consent. According to NBC News, those found guilty under this law could face severe penalties, including mandatory compensation alongside possible fines or prison time.

During the event, President Trump commended Melania, noting how the bipartisan effort came together smoothly, seemingly without her awareness of the challenges involved. He jokingly expressed gratitude for her role, saying, “You made it [Democrats and Republicans] get along.”

Before the bill was signed, Melania addressed the audience, referring to artificial intelligence as the “digital candy” of the current generation. She added, “[B]Unlike sugar, this new technology can be weaponized,” highlighting the potential dangers.

Continuing his remarks, President Trump lauded Melania’s commitment to the legislative process.

Under the “Take It Down” Act, it is established as a federal crime to “intentionally publish” an intimate image without the subject’s consent or to make threats of doing so.
