New York inflation rebate check: When will you receive your payment?

Inflation Refund Checks Coming to New Yorkers

New Yorkers can expect to receive a one-time inflation refund check of up to $400 during the latter half of this fall.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced last week that approximately 8.2 million taxpayers in New York will benefit from these checks, funded by the recently approved 2026 budget.

“Starting in October, more than 8 million New Yorkers will receive an inflation refund. This is your money, and we want to make sure it gets back to you,” Hochul stated. “I will continue to fight for your families as costs rise, which is why I’ve reduced middle-class taxes, expanded child tax credits, and committed to providing free school lunches for all students.”

Eligibility for Inflation Refund Checks

So, who might be eligible? According to the State Tax and Treasury Website, you might qualify if:

  • You have submitted Form IT-2011, which is the New York State Resident Income Tax Return.
  • Your reported income falls within the designated threshold.
  • You are not claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return.

How Much Will You Receive?

The amount you receive depends on your income and submission status for the 2024 tax year. According to the state’s Department of Tax and Treasury, here’s what you can expect:

  • Individuals earning up to $75,000 will receive a $200 check.
  • Individuals making between $75,000 and $150,000 will receive $150.
  • Married couples filing jointly with an income up to $150,000 will get $400.
  • Those earning between $150,000 and $300,000 will receive $300.
  • If filing separately, a married individual earning up to $75,000 gets $200, while those making between $75,000 and $150,000 will receive $150.
  • Heads of household earning up to $75,000 will receive $200, while those earning between $75,000 and $150,000 will get $150.
  • Qualified surviving spouses making up to $150,000 will receive $400, and those earning between $150,000 and $300,000 will receive $300.

How to Receive Your Refund Check

If you qualify, you don’t need to take any action other than waiting for your check to be mailed, as stated by the state Department of Tax.

When Will Checks Be Sent?

The checks will be mailed over several weeks starting in fall 2025. However, no specific delivery schedules are available, as the mailing won’t be based on postal codes or regions. Representatives from the department’s contact center also do not have any additional information regarding the check’s status.
