Trump backers discover unexpected shared interests with congressman from a blue state

Allentown, Pennsylvania

On Saturday night, supporters of President Donald Trump were joined by Americans for Prosperity (AFP) protesters outside the Locanna Rep. town hall in Pennsylvania. The atmosphere was charged, but interestingly, three pro-Trump activists meandering through the mostly empty hall discovered some unexpected common ground with Democrats from Silicon Valley who are eyeing a run for the presidency in 2028.

Before his speech, Kanna engaged with Trump supporters, referencing a law he proposed to solidify Trump’s executive order to reduce prescription drug prices, a topic he discussed with attendees the previous week.

He has gained three Republican co-sponsors for his initiative, including Paulina Luna and Andy Biggs. Some Democrats observing the political discourse expressed dissatisfaction from the sidelines, yet Kanna urged Trump supporters to be proactive, and they responded positively.

Blue State Assemblyman Takes a Different Approach

“I love it,” Kanna mentioned to Fox News Digital just before his speech, emphasizing his appreciation for the First Amendment and noting the peaceful nature of the protests. He appreciated the civic engagement, mentioning how inviting the supporters to join the conversation aligned with democratic values.

When he took the stage, Kanna expressed gratitude to the Trump supporters for their input and highlighted how common concerns like lowering drug prices could pave the way for unity amidst the current political climate.

He underscored the importance of this discussion, especially in light of recent violent events, such as attacks on fertility clinics in California and arson incidents involving Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence.

This gathering in Allentown marked Kanna’s first event in a Congressional District where Republican control is evident. Though he now represents a different area, he roots himself historically, mentioning his upbringing in Bucks County.

Republican representatives Ryan McKenzie and Brian Fitzpatrick are expected to face tough challenges in maintaining their seats in the upcoming 2026 elections, addressing districts that Kanna visited.

Before addressing the crowd, McKenzie commented on Kanna’s absence from local constituents, suggesting that Kanna is more focused on elevating his national profile than serving his immediate community. This criticism came as he campaigned alongside AFP.

Despite the accusations, Kanna remained focused, clarifying that his priority lies in safeguarding jobs and healthcare access, rather than future political aspirations.

Kanna’s remarks tied into broader concerns about unessential cuts to Medicaid, which worries many in the community. His discussions with the United Autoworker Union also played a key role in portraying his commitment to protecting local employment.

In summary, Kanna is determined to address the underlying issues affecting Pennsylvania’s workforce while navigating the political dynamics of aligning with traditionally opposing groups.
